Sony Mobile Malaysia has introduced the all new Sony Xperia M2, new addition to their mid ranged smartphone variants which could be a competition to the Sony Xperia Ultra T2 itself. Let’s find out if it’s a near competitor to the T2. So the Sony Xperia M2 has two variants, one a single sim 4G enabled and the other is known as Sony Xperia M2 Dual, a dual-sim HSDPA+ enabled device. Other than that, rest of the specifications are identical. The Sony Xperia M2 has a 4.8″ display with the resolution of 540×960 resulting in a pixel count of 229. Under the hood, the Sony Xperia M2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. When it comes to the camera, Sony claims to have upgraded the existing camera found on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the 8MP camera by making it to perform even sharper images while the front shooter remains at VGA quality of 0.3MP.
Next, it has only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of ROM which is quite disappointing for me as some manufacturers for low-ranged smartphone comes with 2GB of RAM already. Luckily it has a microSD slot that allows you to expand your memory up to 32GB. When it comes to battery capacity, I still wonder why there are very little smartphone with very low capacity as anything below 2000mAh is considered not enough for these days when it comes to Android. The Sony Xperia M2 has 2300mAh of battery capacity averaging in about 12 hours of talk time which is okay but with low power consuming processor, it could sustain and handle at least last for a day of average usage.
Don’t forget guys, this phone is worth a shot if you get the LTE version as most smartphone around this price range does not have 4G LTE support and only limited to HSDPA+. Not to forget all the essential goodies such as NFC, Bluetooth v4.0 is all present on this smartphone. And of course with Sony’s expensive design and luxurious smartphone outlook, it would not look like it cost you below RM1K. Oh, before I forget, the smartphone comes out of the box running on Android 4.3 Jellybean, and I wonder why is it as such because I would definitely expect the latest software on my newly introduced and purchased Sony Xperia M2. But hey, I could trust on Sony when it comes to software updates as KitKat could not be that far away from the Sony Xperia M2.
I have no idea about the pricing for Sony Xperia M2 LTE variant but so far Sony have only provided me with the pricing for Xperia M2 Dual priced at RM939 and available in both black and white colors with the choice of purple coming soon. Would you consider getting the Sony Xperia M2?
