Having played with different types of Powerbank, I have just got my hands on the ASUS ZenPower Pro which is yet to be released in Malaysia. I am considered one of the lucky ones to get this Powerbank. Previously, I’ve owned a ZenPower, which is the first Powerbank series from ASUS which is well known for its famous description of having “Credit Card Size”. That term make sense in terms of height and width, however it is quite thick in size although being pocket friendly. The ZenPower was a huge success and caught a lot of attention especially for the Black colored version. To continue the success story, the ZenPower Pro has been introduced. What is so great about this upgraded version? Well read up my review and find it out by yourself.
What’s inside the packaging?
- 1 x ASUS ZenPower Pro
- 1 x USB Charging Cable
- 1 x User Manual & Warranty Card
Design
There’s nothing much to say in terms of design. It looks premium, sleek and neat. It does not look complicated and serves it purpose pretty well. The ZenPower Pro weighs at 230g and 22mm in thickness. I have tried slotting it in my pocket and it looks as though you’re having a cigarette box. There’s two USB slots for you to charge your devices. As usual, you can charge this Powerbank with any micro USB charging cable that you have. There’s 4-level LED power lights which indicates the level of juice left within the ZenPower Pro. In addition, there’s also a LED flashlight which might come handy in the dark. Lastly, there’s the usual power button for you to press whenever needed to activate the Powerbank and to check on the remaining power left. Yup, this Powerbank does get activated automatically the moment you connect the USB cable to the device that needs to get charged.
Features
The ZenPower Pro has a capacity of 10050mAh with the rated capacity set at 6400mAh. (Rated Capacity = Power Bank Battery Capacity x Battery Voltage 3.7V / voltage boost 5V x Conversion Efficiency). The selling point of this PowerBank will be it’s Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support which charges your smartphone up to 60% within 30 minutes. If you have a smartphone which supports Quick Charge 2.0, this PowerBank utilizes this technology and charges your device at the same speed the original charging adapter provides. The LED Flashlight on the ZenPower Pro uses 70-lumen LED that has a cool temperature of 5000K. Of course, it comes in two different modes- high intensity mode and power saving mode. When things get too dark, use the high intensity mode while when you need a little light during selfie, use the power saving mode. In order to turn on the LED Flashlight, you have to press and hold the power button for 2 seconds. To enable the power-saving mode, tap power button twice when the LED flashlight is on.
This Powerbank has an intelligent safety technology (JEITA) which monitors ambient temperatures and adjusts the charging current and voltage accordingly. This ensures the ZenPower Pro to be much safer and yet longer lasting as this technology extends the life of this Powerbank.
It takes about 6 hours to fully charge the ASUS ZenPower Pro with a 2A charger while it takes about 9 hours with a 1A charger. Simultaneous charging on both USB ports will be able to output 23.5W per hour. The QuickCharge 2.0 features works on USB Port 1 (DC 5.1V/2.4A (Max) or 9.1 V2.0A or 12.1V/1.5A- QuickCharge 2.0) only while the USB Port 2 is limited to a max of DC 5.1V/2.4A. The only way to differentiate between USB Port 1 and USB Port 2 will be the “Silver-ish trim” on the edges of USB Port 1.
Price & Availability
The ASUS ZenPower Pro ABTU010 is priced at RM 129 inclusive of GST and will be available at authorized retailers by end of July. The original box will have the “ECS ASTAR SDN. BHD.” sticker on the back. In terms of color, there will be Black, Silver-Gray and Pink made available in Malaysia.
Conclusion
I have always used PowerBank the way most people will use, to just charge my device when in need. I never gave any priority to the features and was not aware of it either. Since I started using the ASUS ZenPower Pro on my Quick Charge 2.0 enabled smartphone, I find it to save a lot of time and there’s no need to carry the original wall charger together when I travel. There’s no need to look for your smartphone in order to use a flashlight anymore as the ZenPower got your back covered. For a Powerbank which is pocket-friendly and light-weight, the ASUS ZenPower Pro is a wise choice to accompany your smartphone especially the one which supports quick charging.
