When we mention the word ‘review’ in our title, it is not like any other review that we’ve made before this. To be frank, you can’t say whether the ASUS Zenflash is good or bad. Basically it is an external xenon flash and it does what it’s suppose to do.
Inside the box, you will find the ASUS Zenflash together with a blue rubberized cover, an extra velcro sticker and some user guides as well as the warranty leaflet. We are not sure if the rubberized cover has any any extra purpose other than being just a protective cover for your Zenflash because we don’t know what is the purpose of the ring.
Inside the blue cover, we also found a transparent plastic layer which is probably to protect the sticker of your ASUS Zenflash from sticking on the rubberized cover when you put it inside.
If you look at the Zenflash itself, there is a velcro sticker behind it which is for you to paste on your ASUS Zenfone 2. When you are pasting the Zenflash behind your Zenfone 2, please make sure that the sensor (a transparent thing at the side of your Zenflash) is aligned straight to the LED flash of your device. Otherwise, the ASUS Zenflash will not work. Basically the LED light of your Zenfone will trigger the xenon flash.
ASUS Zenflash depends on the battery of your ASUS Zenfone 2. There is a Micro USB wire from Zenflash that you need to attach to the USB port of Zenfone 2. So be cautious when using the Zenflash because it can make your phone run out of battery if used excessively.
From the photos that we’ve taken, the Zenflash does its job. There is definitely a difference using the Zenflash in low light condition. At first, our photos had a white tint but after performing a software update on our ASUS Zenfone 2, we no longer have this issue.
There is a separate app that you’ll need to use if you need to snap your photo with Zenflash. The app’s name is Zenflash camera. Well, once you’ve attached the Zenflash, even if you go to the normal camera app, it will redirect to this app.
So overall, everything seems to be good with the Zenflash. It just the matter of whether you’ll need it or not. For most of us, the built-in LED flash will be sufficient because we are just going to take some casual shots. If you need to take some really nice and sharp photos under low light condition, then you will definitely need the Zenflash.
According to ASUS, the Zenflash is specially made only for ASUS Zenfone 2. As such, you will not be able to use it on other models like Zenfone C or Zenfone 5 etc.
