Have you ever heard of OnePlus anytime before you actually read this post? Well, I guess not because it is the same situation that I faced when I heard of this new phone manufacturer. OnePlus is another upcoming company that solely focused on mobile phone industry and which now they have announced their first and only smartphone till date, the OnePlus One. Quite a catchy name and also can be misunderstood by many as the “HTC One” until you realize the existence of the OnePlus One. Erm, well why am I talking about all this, nobody is interested in knowing about a company right? Well, there is a catch to it for the reason of why I am talking about as this smartphone’s specification is what you would expect from famous mobile phone manufacturers and even some would fall out badly when we get to the specification part.
The OnePlus One features a 5.5″ Full HD JDI display with pixel density of 401 ppi, and yes it features the recently released Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz quad core processor thus comes with Adreno 330 graphics clocked at 578MHz. The One is boosted with 3GB of RAM and comes with two variants of internal storage, one with 16GB and another with 64GB sadly both without an microSD slot. The camera is surely a major selling point, featuring a 13MP Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor with 6 lenses which could possibly be something similar to the Pureview camera on the Lumia 1020. The main camera has an aperture of f/2.0 with the capability of shooting 4K videos with dual LED flash and stereo recording. Meanwhile the front camera is set to the highest so far offered on a smartphone which is 5MP with wide angle that allows you to take selfies with your friend, which we can consider as “groupfie”?
Moving on to the battery capacity which is a whooping 3100mAh with the battery being non-removable the back cover is however removable solely for “StyleSwap” which means you can customize and change the back cover according to your liking.
The One comes out of box running on Cyanogenmod 11S, latest of its kind with the best of open-source Android experience ever made which features loads of customization and packed with latest features seen on any other Android skin on. Other extra features that the One offers are LTE capability, as for in Malaysia, need not to worry as it supports band 7 as well. Followed by stereo speakers, and body of the smartphone is built using magnesium which still seems premium enough, Bluetooth v4.0 running on software version 4.1, LED notification light, on-screen or capacitive button up to users preference and a single slot for Micro SIM.
The price for this smartphone is set at USD 299 for 16GB and USD 349 for the 64GB which is about RM976 and RM1139 respectively and comes in Sandstone Black and Silk White colors. What is your opinion on the OnePlus One? Would you get this one once made available in your local market?
