Today, Umobile has upgraded its connectivity level to a step further by introducing LTE support to its users, which I expected only for the Postpaid users, but guess what, even Prepaid users can enjoy this as well .
However, those who could enjoy this 4G connectivity should be using one of these plans listed below :-
– Prepaid – UMI 38 and UMI 48
– Postpaid – U58, U88, E58, E88, UD68, UD98, UD158, U Premium, U Platinum and Internet Share Plan 68
– Broadband – MB40, MB68 and MB128
and also applicable for those who are subscribed to the Booster Plan for both Prepaid and Postpaid.
Sad news that U Mobile announced is that the coverage for this LTE connectivity is limited to a very small area within Klang Valley and Johor Bahru, which is really a disappointing moment for the customers, but as this is just the initial launch, I would expect them to expand their coverage pretty soon. U Mobile claims that their LTE network is able to reach 75Mbps of speed which is a competitive level against the other LTE providers in Malaysia.
One more issue to take note is that Apple users who own either an iPad mini(1st generation) and iPad 4 or even an iPhone5 could not enjoy this LTE network that U Mobile offers despite not supporting the Band 3 that Apple devices feature so only devices with Band 7 can actually utilize this connection speed, those who are using a later version such as iPhone 5S or the new iPad’s has Band 7 support but according to U Mobile, they did not make any agreement with Apple to allow their LTE service to support Apple devices, this remains unsettled to U Mobile users as their LTE service is somehow confusing and unclear. Lets hope U Mobile would sort this out in the coming days.
