Today, Alcatel have officially announced the Alcatel Idol X+ , a new comer to the Idol X family. In addition to this Android smartphone, they are also introducing BOOMband, yes, it is a Bluetooth powered wristband which might sound like Samsung Galaxy Gear but sorry to disappoint you as it is in a totally different league, perhaps something similar to Nike’s Fuelband? Lets get to know more about these two gadgets.
Okay, so the Alcatel Idol X+ is a 5-inch full HD screen with 1920×1080 resolution, yeah no 2k resolution screen featured on this one. A MediaTek MT6592 2GHz octa-core processor( This would have been interesting if they replace it with the LTE enabled version MT6595 which would be introduced in Q1 2014), 2GB of RAM, 13MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture, and a 2500 mAh battery( I wonder if this is enough to sustain the octa-core CPU’s power management), and this phone has a very thin bezel of 1.9mm around the screen area which utilizes the 5-inch screen perfectly, also the Idol X+ measures only at 7.9mm which is quite a slim built design.
Moving on to the BOOMband, it is powered via Bluetooth which would help you track your movements and activity using the build in proximity sensor on the wristband. This might be a alternate way of calculating your distance if you’re a runner and a user of GPS tracking app such as Endomondo,Nike+ or even Runkeeper, this wristband could actually be a second opinion alongside those apps which records via movement.
I am pretty sure there are much more features which both of these gadgets will offer but we would only know once the final product is ready and reviewed. Also do take note that the wristband would come in few attractive colors to choose from. This gadgets would be available for sale beginning of January 15th with the price tag of Chinese Yuan(CNY)1999, with direct conversion comes to RM(Malaysian Ringgit)1085 and $330 in USD.
Would this be a better release and the idea of wristband to be a successful sales factor? Or would you expect the battery capacity to be higher as the competitors are offering much higher these days.
